Step 1. Universal Language

Slõ drinks use coloured cups, white, beige and brown to represent
the three different fluid consistencies provided in the National
Descriptors for Texture Modification in Adults.

By using colour as a descriptor, they eliminate the problems caused
by ambiguous and personal terms that are used to describe the
consistency of a drink.

Instead, you simply use the right coloured cup.

This system can therefore easily be incorporated into any existing
Dysphagia care plan or strategy.

But more importantly it offers for the first time, a way of integrating
all Dysphagia management strategies, by translating the different
consistency terms you will have heard of into one universally
recognisable language.
