Those creating nutrition plans and making drinks for a person with dysphagia put themselves under a massive amount of pressure to make sure every drink matches the prescribed consistency and is safe to swallow. That will always be difficult using the scoop-and-hope method to add thickener.
To relieve that pressure and give people consistency confidence, Slõ Milkshakes+; all Slõ Drinks are made to match the Stage 1, syrup, nectar; Stage 2 honey and custard. These consistencies have been established following feedback from clinicians and patients over the years.
However, we know that they may not match the user’s perception of consistency or what may not be ideal for the drinker and that is OK?
When you make a Slõ Milkshake+ using the volume of liquid we state it will always meet a specific consistency. But, the drinker may be better with a thin syrup/ nectar consistency or a very thick syrup/ nectar consistency. This is easily achieved with a Slõ Milkshake+.
Because you know what consistency a Slõ Milkshake+ will be adding the volume of milk we state you can use it as a bench mark. You can then thin it out by adding an extra 20mls of milk, or thicken it up by reducing the volume by 20mls. (See above). You may even want to add the Slõ Milkshake+ powder to the shaker first and then fill it with milk to the 200mls line.
After deciding what volume of milk makes a Slõ Milkshake+ most comfortable to swallow, as long as that volume is used every time, the Slõ Milkshake+ will always be that consistency.
We wanted to let you know this – just in case you thought it was inappropriate. It isn’t. We are happy for you change the way Slõ Milkshakes+ are made. We are far more interested in the drinker having something they can drink without worry.
