When working to a standard like IDDSI, nutrition must still be central to ones thinking. As a result. pre-thickened Oral Nutritional Supplements created to IDDSI standards are very useful for those with dysphagia.

However, Nutrica’s Nutilis and Fresenius Kabi’s Fresubin Thickened supplements don’t feature the IDDSI flow terms on pack and until yesterday neither did our Slõ Milkshakes+.

This is causing a problem for those that want to adopt the Initiative or have already switched to it. They have to run the old number system and the IDDSI one which puts the patient at risk of having an ONS at the wrong consistency.

As a result, yesterday we decided to remove that risk and created the label above which we are applying by hand to our existing stock.

We can make this change as Slõ Milkshakes+ already match the IDDSI flow rates and don’t need reformulating.

By applying the terms to our packs now we hope to help everyone that wants to implement the Initiative.
