Clinicians told us that they, carers and their dysphagia patients find it difficult to make nutritional supplements to the right consistency.
After some research we discovered the problem was the supplements high fat content. It prevents gum and starch based thickeners working effectively.
Consequently, we looked for a new thickener that would work with milk. It also had to be colourless, odourless and tasteless: quick dissolving and amylase resistant. That was 2 ½ years ago.
It has taken us that long to perfect the formula and we finally managed to make them a reality
with help from the Greater Manchester Health Science Network.
Each sachet contains a specific dose of our unique thickener that works with whole full fat milk and
a Chocolate and Strawberry flavouring.
To make it simply add 200ml of whole full fat milk with the relevant sachet to create perfectly
smooth high calorie milkshakes Stage 1: Syrup, Nectar, Mildly Thick and Stage 2: Custard, Honey, Moderately Thick consistency.

They cost less than half the price of all pre-made supplements and less than other powdered milkshakes which are not safe for those with dysphagia to swallow.
The result of all this – we hope Slõ Milkshakes+ will be a huge help to those with dysphagia and
those caring for them and…we are now trying to develop Slõ Juice+ – the first high calorie juice
drinks for dysphagia!
